President Jim and Barb Alberts presented statistics regarding our Club’s membership and absences.  Currently we have 76 active members and 9 honorary members.  Information gathered indicates that we exceed meeting attendance compared to other Rotary clubs and organizations.  President Jim stressed that we need to be flexible and understanding of members who cannot come to every meeting due to work commitments, health issues, vacations, etc.  Some of our members do not attend meetings but are supportive on a regular basis.

Our Rotary Club Foundation was pleased to present a check to Diane Doherty, Executive Director at Your Safe Place.  Diane explained that Your Safe Place is a Family Justice Center where survivors of domestic and family violence, elder abuse, sexual assault and sex trafficking can seek justice, begin healing and reclaim their lives.

Sandie Dewane gave the Family of Rotary report.  Mary Beth Doss suffered a stroke and is currently in the hospital.  Terri Hunter is undergoing glaucoma surgery today.  Charley and Barb Crew are recovering from COVID.

Bob Vaughn garnered happy bucks from eager donors:  Jim Sommer was happy because he and Karen celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary!  Ken Heinz was happy because the RYLA process is complete; Lee Proimos honored his two guests; Pat Chafee survived two weeks driving the Baja peninsula; and John Mullin & Bill Brehm donated toward the camel’s hygiene.  Guest speaker Larry Steckler also contributed.  Thanks to all!

Jim Hyldahl introduced Larry Steckler, who is an avid ocean scuba diver.  Larry gave a fascinating presentation with accompanying photos and videos about his scuba diving experiences.  The ocean is a world filled with numerous species of underwater plants and marine animals and he stressed the importance of conservation as all play a vital role in marine ecosystems.  For instance, in areas where fishing is prohibited, numerous ocean animals are multiplying and thriving.  Cheryl Roop presented a book for Larry’s signature, which will be donated to the Bernardo Heights Middle School Library in his name.

Our next meeting is an evening meeting on April 4th.  The program will be presented by Ching-Ming Cheng, Piano, CSUSM Professor.

President Jim closed the meeting by ringing the bell.

Respectfully submitted,
