June 9th Rotary Meeting Minutes
President Athenea opened the meeting with a delicate ring of the bell. She then led the members in reciting the 4-way test. The following volunteers were thanked for their participation: Jan Goldsmith for leading the Pledge, Frank De Francesco for a strong Inspirational Message, Cheryl Roop as Greeter and John O’Neill as Scribe.
Mike Fuqua reported out on our annual fundraiser, Vines& Vittles. He urged everyone to get involved by donating as a sponsor, volunteering to help with the event and buying tickets. President-Elect Alan Turner reported on the RI Convention in Houston. President Athenea reminded us that there would be a Governors Dinner on June 30th at the Del Mar Hilton from 5pm to 8pm.
John O’Neill and Karen Stelman took care of The Family of Rotary update. Arilla St. Laurent is still being evaluated in order to find a solution for the clogged arteries in her left foot.  Pete Griffiths is still recuperating from back surgery. We wish you both a speedy recovery and an early return to the club.
Fine master John O’Neill stoically received the double chorus of boo’s from the peanut gallery, then bravely soldered on. Toby Westbrook reported that his spouse, Ann, had several photos in the local paper. He generously donated $30 to the presidential slush fund. Mike Fuqua gamely introduced our speaker and his daughter from the Agra/Taj Mahal, India Club. What he forgot to do was introduce his wife Patty, who was sitting right in front of him. This caused the Charley Crew penalty to be invoked, along with a hefty fine. Jim Hydahl donated $20 for the generous club members who contributed part of the $38,000 collected so far for sponsorships in Vines & Vittles.
Mark Alberts gave his Who Am I, the final step required to earn a gold badge.
Mike introduced our speaker Rahul Wadhwa, past president of the Agra/Taj Mahal Rotary Club. Rahul is the recipient of our largess when funds were needed for urgent local needs. He described the reason for the grants and thanked our club profusely for leading the drives.
President Athenea adjourned the meeting by announcing our speaker for the June 16th meeting, as “The EV King” Randy Schimka, with a presentation of All About EV’s.
