President Jim rang the bell to begin an interesting meeting that began with the 4 Way Test followed by Jim Hyldahl 's pledge. He reminded us of the 2007 fires that affected 200,000 people, 1100 homes-and an event in 2008 led by Past President Karen Stelman, at that time, when our club placed 1141 flags in an RB park commemorating lost homes. Felix Luciano inspired us all with 4 words-"Work hard, Be Kind. " President Jim modeled his Dad's Camel Hair Jacket-the subject of a fund-raising challenge now in place.

Meeting volunteers were thanked, guests introduced by Ron Hunt and welcomed with song by members and the flurry and scampering of Joel Doss. More music followed, continuing the inclusion of the president's theme-with the singing of Woodie Gutherie's "This land is Your Land."

Announcements included:.
Padre's game report, Horse racing, August 25th. See Diane Remick for remaining 10 tickets. Camel Hair Jacket Challenge. Family of Rotary, Arilla-reminded us to inform her of member information. She continued as Fine Mistress and complained about the weak Boo intro. We can do better, she said, So-let's.

Program: Leia Brune, Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Leia reminded us that the program was founded by Susan's sister in honor of her death. She stressed the need for awareness and access to mammograms which frequently are not covered by insurance. Mammograms detail diagnosis that enable less drastic surgery and newer therapies. Legislative action has led to 14 states requiring such coverage. The hope is that all states follow. Proposed legislation did not pass in the California Legislature. $400,000 was raised from the 'change round-up campaign at Starbucks

In 2022 43,000 deaths occurred among the 287,000 diagnosed. Men experience 1% of breast cancers. A fund raising WALK will occur in Balboa Park on November 5.
