Rotary Meeting on July 23, 2020

Meeting Notes by Sandie Dewane, Scribe

President Alex Robertson called the meeting to order and we began with the Rotary 4 Way Test motto.  Past President David King led us in the Pledge of Allegiance after we viewed a Charlie Daniels video.  The video recalls Red Skeleton’s story about his favorite teacher who explained the meaning and importance of each word in the Pledge to his students because it seemed it was getting monotonous for them to recite.  Dick Norfolk’s Inspirational Message was based on the importance of love and acceptance during these COVID times.

Don Glover introduced our guest Paul Heeter for the last time since he is being inducted as our newest member today!  Joel Doss welcomed Paul in song.  Bob Vaughn provided a special and touching video about how life is like a journey on a train in which passengers board and leave the train as time goes on.

President Alex thanked today’s volunteers:  the amazing Mike Fuqua who truly is a master at multi-tasking; Bill Angus for his talents in producing our weekly newsletter and Sandie Dewane, Scribe.

President Alex then had the pleasure of inducting Paul Heeter.  Paul’s sponsor is Don Glover and his mentor is Charlie Crew.  Welcome to RB Rotary Paul!

Pat Chafee announced that last year we raised over $14,000 through Happy Bucks from 54 members!  He also reminded us that Joel Doss has the Rotary face masks at his home and to call him to schedule a time for pick up.  Mike Fuqua mentioned that the Vines & Vittles Steering Committee met and set the date of Sunday, July 25, 2021.  The group will meet again in the Fall to discuss plan of action and form committees.

Charley Crew reported that the Club Foundation had its first meeting of the year and the officers are:  President – Mike Fuqua; Vice President – John O’Neill and Secretary/Treasurer - Charley Crew.  He reminded us that the Foundation Board meets 4 times a year and meetings are open to the full membership.  Along with the officers mentioned, the other Board members are Alex Robertson, David King, Pat Chaffee, Athenea Luciano, Toby Westbrook and Judy Lutticken.

Arilla gave the family of Rotary report on herself!  She has a bruise on her face resulting from an “attack” by a falling can at the grocery store.  Good thing she was wearing a face mask at the time.  Next up was our Illustrious Fine Master John O’Neill who asked for Happy Bucks resulting in donations from Jim Sommer for a wonderful driving trip to Reno to visit family; Mike Fuqua (holding out hope that the Padres will win the World Series this year and for his grandson being named Captain of the soccer team);  and Dave Brooks for his upcoming presentation on Ecuador.

We were pleased to have two interesting and entertaining “Who Am I” presentations by Alan Turner and Patrick Chaffee.  Thank you, Alan & Pat!

Karen Stelman entertained us with a cute joke😊.   Mike Stelman reminded everyone about Poinsettia sales starting in August.  Dave King announced that District Golf is starting again and if anyone is interested in joining, to contact him.

Our next Zoom meeting is at 11:00 a.m. sharp on Thursday, July 30th.  The meeting was adjourned.
