Rotarians happily strolled into Bernardo Heights CC to visit with fellow Rotarians after they were warmly greeted by Gary Saks and then headed in to enjoy lunch.

Co-President Athenea rang the official opening bell at 12:30. The Four-Way Test, the Pledge of Allegiance and inspiration were led by Athenea, Phil Warner and John Mullen respectively. John noted how 'adversity' affects life and very often contributes to positivity. His challenges were strongly supported by his family. Visitors were welcomed by Gary after which Joel D. conducted the incomparable 'welcome song' with his trusty baton. The final group of officers received their badges with Alex identifying them and Athenea presenting the badges. Bob Vaughn encouraged us to read this month's Rotarian magazine that features the Foundation. Mike Stelman's 80th occurred on this day! "Let him eat a lot of cake."
Next meeting July 29; speaker to be announced; possible induction.

SPEAKER: Dr. Kevin Murphy, Neurosurgeon
Dr. Murphy's extensive credentials explain his preeminence in the field of brain surgery-that corrects brain anatomy 'anomalies- an abnormal function of the organ. The reading of 'brain wave's data' in the 19 regions of the brain- identifies malfunctions that can be corrected by surgery. What an accomplishment! This is explained as a treatment and correction for dementia, Alzheimer's disease and PTSD, the effects of military engagement and other situations such as Autism, corrected for his son. Dr. Murphy stressed the difference in treating an organ, the brain, versus the mind-psychology.
(P.S. To accurately and simply describe this science was an admitted challenge to your scribe with a Liberal Arts degree. But exposure to son and two grandkids' combined achieved masters and doctorate degrees in physics helped a lot.)

Dr. Murphy is a board certified radiation oncologist, specializing in treating brain tumors in adults and children; founder of Stereotactic Radiosurgery Program at UCSD in 2006, he has co-authored several book chapters and articles on his techniques in his disciplines; founder of San Diego based PerkLogic, a software company and MindSet Treatment Center. Bachelors, Masters and Medical Degrees received from University of Notre Dame and Purdue and elsewhere. He is collaborating with others to advance and share his science successes.
Respectfully,
Sonny Googins, Scribe.
