Co-president David King brought the meeting to order and led us in reciting the 4 Way Test. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jim Hyldahl. Mira Bozanich inspired us with her thoughts on how to deal with the mistakes we make.
Our greeter was Ron Hunt who introduced our guests. Joel Doss lead us with baton in hand in yet another inspiring rendition of our beloved Welcome Song.

President Dave thanked our volunteers: room setup by Bill Brehm; check-in by Joel Doss, Benita Page and Dick Norfolk; meeting pictures also by Bill B.; Bill Angus for doing the newsletter; meeting organization by John O’Neill and these words by your humble scribe, Dave Brooks.

President Dave’s first announcement was about the next Golf League tournament; it will be Wednesday, January 8th. Jim Reid announced that the Music Contest will be held at next week’s meeting and we will have 5 (possibly more) students competing. Toby Westbrook invited us all to a dictionary labeling party at his house (12142 Avenida Consentido) on Saturday morning, January 11th starting at 9:30 am. Toby and Ann will provide a light lunch; attendees should bring a salad or dessert.

Rotary Foundation Chair Dan Barrios awarded a Paul Harris pin with 4 rubies to Toby.

Club Foundation Chair Don Glover presented a check for $2000 to Elaine Johnson of the Friends and Family Community Connection. This organization is based in RB and serves the community in many ways: packages and distributes food to fight hunger; provides care for the homeless and seniors and partners with RB Rotary and other groups in their community service projects.

President Dave inducted Roy Cornett with the classification “Youth Professional”. Roy is the manager of the 4S Ranch Branch of the Boys & Girls Club.

Regarding the Family of Rotary, a celebration of life for Frances Blair will be on Saturday, February 15th at 10 am. The location is St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 16275 Pomerado Road.

President Dave told us about these future events: Rotary Leadership Institute training on January 11th at Morgan Run; Rotary Peace Conference January 17-18 at the Ontario Convention Center; and the need for volunteers on January 19th to greet the district governors-elect arriving at SAN for International Assembly (after many years in San Diego, this event will move to Orlando next year).

RZ Norris said she has 9 tickets left for the Winter Dance Party on January 15th.

Mira introduced our speaker Rico Caveglia whose topic was “Be Bold, Never Grow Old”. He got us moving in fun ways!
