President Dave welcomed the group and led us in the 4 Way Test as we do every week.  Vern Cook led us in the pledge and Jim Hydahl gave the Inspirational Message.  Dan Barrios was our greeter and Joel did a banner job, as usual, leading us in our welcome song. We had two visiting Rotarians join us.  Joel was joined at the front desk by Joe Leventhal, Bill Brehm led the set up crew and James Kaspar was our photographer.  John O'Neill is our meeting organizer and Fine Master and always does a great job.
The Saks, Crews and Fuquas returned from their Rotary trip to India to help disburse the much needed Polio Vaccine to the children there.  They each gave a short speech about what touched them the most and then Gary Saks showed a short video of the trip.  It was so professionally done as it included back ground music and lots of fun pictures.  Thanks to all six who went from our club.  I'm confident the wives were equally impressed with the whole trip.  It's a wonderful thing to be a part of.  These are memories that last a life time.

Pres. Dave announced the update of the Rotary Golf League.  They will play Encinitas Ranch at noon on Feb. 12.  The green fee will be $79.  He encouraged anyone interested to sign up as soon a possible.  Just give him a call.
Dan Barrios presented Gary Saks with his Paul Harris pin reaching a level of giving that earned him 3 red rubies embedded in a beautiful gold pin.
As President of our Foundation, Don Glover presented a check to Laura Perdaum, a fellow Rotarian who works at the Madeline Sophie Center.  Their good work was rewarded with a check in the amount of $1200.  It was a matching grant that our club members helped support.

Diane Remick made a request for plastic grocery bags to be given to her to support a Parent Care facility which gives out food to needy families.  More often than not, they have no bags in which to carry their groceries home.  Check under your car seats and door pockets to see if you can part with those bags.
Arilla is our Family of Rotary representative and asked that anyone with knowledge of an illness or injury please let her know so she can pass a card around and let other's know of the problem.  She announced with great sadness that John Hawkins had been diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and is in hospice.  A card was passed around at lunch.  Please feel free to send your own cards but no phone calls or visits at this time.  Prayers are always appreciated.
Bob Vaughn was our auctioneer for the beautiful bouquet that Branches, at the Bernardo Winery, always donates to our club for a raffle to raise money for our Foundation.
Alex jumped in after a couple of opening bids and bid $100.  Then it was decided the money ($300) would go to the Foundation and I think the flowers would go to the Hawkins.   It's always so nice to see our club be so generous!
Next up was the induction of Michael Ortiz, a Financial Advisor.  Larry Valente is his mentor, Bill Brehm is his sponsor and Alan Turner, from the Membership Committee, presented Michael with his red badge and folder on things to accomplish to earn his gold badge.  Michael became the world's newest Rotarian and stayed after the meeting to meet and greet us as we filed out.
Pat Chaffee introduced our guest speaker, Corrinne Sylvestre, who has the pleasure of working at The Institute for Conservation Research at both the Safari Park and the San Diego Zoo.  She is on the San Diego Global team but spends the majority of her time at the Beckman Building at the Safari Park.  Their goal is to collect and preserve tissue, embryos and other life saving "parts" to help preserve the future of a number of animals that are becoming extinct and/or have life threatening deceases.    They store many different life saving collectibles in a room called the Frozen Room where they constantly monitor items so they have immediate access if and when their precious inventory is needed.  You can Google The Institute for Conservation Research for more information.
