President Doug called the meeting to order early today to accommodate a very special program.  Dan Malloy led us in the pledge, Ron Hunt gave the Inspirational message and Doug shared introductions with Jim Reid who introduced our special guests for the day.  Joel and Mike Fuqua were at the front desk.  Thanks to the set up crew of Paul, Pat and Jim Reid.  James kept his camera rolling all through the meeting and our Fine Master had fun with the crowd, making a few bucks along the way!
Jim Reid took charge of the meeting which was the Rotary District Instrumental Music Competition at the club level.  Many thanks to Mr. Duane Otani, Music Director at RB High and Dr. Jennifer Kitelinger, Music Director at Del Norte High who worked to make this happen but were unable to attend.  The Judges were John LoPiccolo, Conductor of the Poway Symphony Orchestra, John Luke Addison, Music Director at the St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church and Jim Reid, Ph.D. and Rotarian in our club.
There were five contestants that played for us in competition with each other.  They were all wonderful but as in any competition, someone had to win.  That honor went to Mia Wilson from RB High who played the flute, accompanied by pianist Joane Stohz.  It was a beautiful performance which garnered her a $150 check for first place in the competition.   Daniel Ota from RB High who played the French Horn, came in second and received a check for $100.  There was a three way tie for third place with each of them receiving a check for $75.  They were Nenita Mugol who is from Del Norte High and played the flute accompanied by April Millicon on the piano, Brigette Watson who played the Viola and represented Del Norte High and Brian Kim from Del Norte High who played a beautiful Sonata by Beethoven.  The nice thing about this competition is that all five were winners!  Many parents were in attendance and  everyone enjoyed this refreshing performance.
