Rancho Bernardo Rotary Club
Dec. 6, 2018
President Doug opened the meeting with a hearty welcome and lead us in the Four Way Test.  I think we all have the words down with no peeking!  Don Glover led us in the pledge and Dick Norfolk gave the Inspirational Message.  Mike Fuqua was our greeter and introduced our visiting Rotarians and guests....minus one.  Gary forgot to introduce Didi which later led to a fine for the offense!  Mike led us in song and it was one of our better performances.  He may become a regular.  Good job!
Joel, Dan Malloy and Dan Barrios manned the front desk.  Pat Chaffee and Jim Reed set up the room at RBCC.  James Kasper was our ever faithful photographer and John O'Neill assigned the duties.
Next order of business was to vote on next year's officers.  As immediate Past President, Mike Fuqua presented the slate  approved as is since there were no more nominations submitted.  They are as follows:

Past President:         Doug Dawson
Presidents:               David and Susan King  (go team!)
President Elect:        Alex Robertson
Vice President:         Don Glover
Co-Treasurers:         Toby Westbrook and Phil Warner
Co-Secretaries:        Jeanne Hawkins and Benita Page
Sgt. at Arms:            Jim Reid
Our first check from the RB Rotary Foundation was presented to Alzheimers of San Diego.  This is a local organization that supports the communities of San Diego in our ever growing fight against this dreaded disease.

Jim Reid gave us some information on the upcoming RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) Camp held this spring.  He asked for volunteers to fill positions needed to help run that weekend.  It's held at Idellwild Camp in March and interviews for the High School Juniors begin in January.  It's a very intense and fun 3 day district wide leadership camp.  Jim will be looking for members to participate in the interview process as well as volunteers to attend the camp as facilitators.  They'll be a short training session for those wishing to participate with a Fri. and Sat. nite stay at the camp.  It's an experience you will never forget!  "Be the Inspiration"....our Int'l Rotary theme and Jim's calling for help.
A new member was inducted into our club today.  Bob Chambers received his red badge beside his mentor, Benita Page and Sponsor, Dick Norfolk.  Welcome to the club!
John O'Neill followed with several fines as he took great pleasure in fining Gary!
Karen Stelman gave the Family of Rotary report.  Maureen Rouleau had hip surgery on Dec. 3rd and is recovering at her sisters here in RB.  Cards were passed for her and for Frances Blair who sadly had a couple of falls on their move to Waco, TX.  She bumped her head and was bruised "all over"  but is in the hands of some very capable doctors.  She has lost the use of her right arm but they are getting closer to a reason and a solution.   Her address is  2090 Austin Hines Dr., China Spring, TX 76633.  No new home or cell numbers yet but they're working on it.   We also remembered Arilla who attended todays meeting after a very serious and hours long operation on her heart.  She's a trooper.  Then there was Don Glover who was in attendance, maybe looking for a little sympathy after suffering a heard attack just 10 days ago.  We are so thankful for everyone one of them as they are on the mend.
Then is was Mira's turn to introduce our speaker, Steve Wistrich.  Steve and his wife introduced San Diego to the ballet 26 years ago.  They perform at the Spreckels Theatre and this year they have 12 performances of The Nutcracker from Dec. 7 - 23.  We even got to see some short performances on the TV via a promo disc.  At the end, Steve offered to sell our club members tickets at a 10% discount and if we come as a group, he will donate back to the club.  You can reach them for information and tickets at www.cityballet.org or at 858-272-8663.  When you purchase the tickets, mention RB Rotary Club
to get your discount of 10%.  Those interested should try to set up a group to go together and have even more fun.  I'm not in charge of that!
See you at the Holiday Party at 5 p.m. for a no host bar.   Madrigals will perform at 6 p.m. and dinner will be at 6:30.
Looking forward to a wonderful evening.  Remember.... We will be dark Dec. 20th and 27th.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
