The Pre-meeting social was especially interesting. We celebrated Fruitcake! We have it on good authority, the more the booze, the longer the life of the fruitcake, according to Arilla who kicked off the discussion. Others claim that edible longevity ranges from two to twenty-four (24) years and longer. You don't eat the fruitcake you made this year, but next year; Joel Doss endorsed Cosco as 'the best fruitcake'-except for Grandma's recipe.
President Alex opened the meeting 5:30 p.m.with all reciting the 4-Way Test, followed by Michael Ortiz leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Jan Goldsmith drew his inspiration from former Rotary Governor Marta Knight and Greeter Dan Malloy welcomed guests Barbara Crew, Patti Fuqua and Connie Alvarez who thanked all for our support of the 4S Boys and Girls Club. Joel Doss added to the welcome leading our Welcome Song to all, with baton.
Mike Fuqua made a special RB Foundation award presentation to Connie Alvarez, Director of The Boys and Girls Club.
President Alex thanked the meeting volunteers, Mike F.-Zoom Master; Sonny G. Scribe and Bill Angus-transmitter of our Newsletter/Minutes. Arilla St.Laurent requested information of members as to who might be ill, etc. to be sent to her.
Our Fine Master, John O'Neill was appropriately recognized with a strong chorus of BOOooos. He fined no one and invited Rotarians to offer Happy Bucks for our coffers-which we did.
Cathy Glover reported the results of her See's Candy campaign. Our friends and family will enjoy 'nuts and chews' and more, thanks to her, and Rotary realized approximately $469+. Arilla reminded us of the PJs for Children project. Smokin' Jim H. announced the Date of January 9th, 2021 as the Oaks North Clean-up Day.

Mike Fuqua acknowledged the Rotarian Award from the Couch Potato effort going to Jim Hyldahl for exceptional fund raising for our club with his donation of smoked salmon, bacon, etc. made to order by "Smokin Jim," his new nickname. Many members have ordered his home-smoked products for which members paid $25 to $50 donations. Thanks, Jim.
John Goodrich introduced Dr. Frazee of SDSU our guest speaker. He detailed how the faculty conducts virtual classes. There was a Summer Institute training session for faculty to familiarize them with the technical aspects of conducting classes. He emphasized that "One Size Does Not Fit All" and flexible teaching is required to enable flexible learning. Connecting various elements was necessary and challenging. They reached out to Faculty, Deans, Senate and Fellows to collaborate with other units and accomplish a one-on-one opportunity also. Terry Heck presented Dr. Frazee with the Rotary Book Award, made in his name to a middle school library.
President Alex reminded us that the next meeting will be December 17 and asked that we wear festive clothing to celebrate the Holidays coming. We will be dark the 24th.
The meeting was adjourned at the sound of the bell by President Alex. He added a new word to the dictionary:
Covidiot: one who doesn't wear a mask.
Respectfully,
Sonny Googins, Scribe
