Our Co- President Athenea opened the meeting promptly at 12 pm.  Our new member, Rosalind Duddy led us in the pledge, and Judy Lutticken gave a wonderful Inspirational Message.  Her message was to "Stay Calm and Carry On".  Felix Luciano was our greeter and Joel Doss continues to lead us in our Welcome Song.  He seems to be getter better every week!  Many thanks to all those who helped out today.
Many thanks to the crew that worked the front desk.  Sgt. at Arms was Bob Vaughn, Front Desk: Tom Kapocius, Pat Chaffee and Joel Doss.  Our photographer was James Kaspar, always shooting the best side of the people he is photographing!
Bob Vaughn put on a new hat as Rotary Foundation representative and awarded Alan Turner a PHF +1 and Doug Dawson, a Paul Harris ( PHF+5).  Thanks so much for your contributions.
Co-President Athenea is now accepting Grants and Matching Gifts for our Club Foundation.  The deadline is Oct. 21st for submissions.
Arilla reported on The Family of Rotary but had no one report to her so we had a good week!  Dan Barrios generously gave $50 for his anniversary but prefaced the donation by saying they had 1 rough year and maybe he should only give $49!!  August birthday members were asked to stand and then help in passing out the beautiful cake.  It's been a long time to go without being able to celebrate in person.
Jim Reid introduced our speaker, Dr. Tim Rice, Founding Chair of the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA.  He currently is President of the Center for World Music, San Diego.  He looks for people who are undiscovered in music.  With the Pandemic hitting hard, it was his quest to find more artists.  People could tune in and do a virtual  audition and people turned in from all over the world to watch!
An Odisi Dance was show cased with a beautiful dancer who interpreted her music skills through a beautiful dance  along with some verbal voice overlay.  There was Brazilian music preformed by 2nd graders....so cute!  There was also a clip on  Indonesian music using different hammers and different items to pound on.  This was such an interesting presentation along with a very intelligent speaker that kept us laughing at each turn of the road.  This new discovery of excellent talent in the community will be showcased soon as more donations and interest grows for these kind of events!
Cheryl Roop is now our presenter of books to our speaker.  She found an  book of music appropriate for Dr. Rice to autograph.  He was delighted that "his book" would be given to Bernardo Heights Middle School library on his behalf.
Our next meeting will be September 2nd.  It's an evening meeting starting at 17h30 (or 5:30 for those who don't speak military! Hope you can all attend.  Speaker to be announced forth coming.
Speaker Note Update: "Our speaker for this week 9/2 is Jamal Felton, counselor and dedicated football coach at Rancho Bernardo High School. Mr. Felton brings to bear his public high school student-to-coach/student-to-counselor experiences when speaking to us about the RBHS youth services and diversity. Please remember this is an evening meeting." - Athenea Luciano, Co-President
