RB Rotary Meeting – August 22, 2024
Scribe Notes by Sandie Dewane

After a lively social time and lunch, President Terry Heck called the meeting to order. We joined him in reciting the 4-Way Test and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Terry thanked today’s volunteers: Greeter-Tom Murphy; Scribe-Sandie Dewane; AV-Dave Brooks; Front Desk – Pat Chaffee, Joel Doss; Sgt. At Arms-Joel Doss; Photographer- Bill Brehm and Book Presenter- Cheryl Roop.

Greeter Tom Murphy welcomed numerous guests, most of whom were SDSU fans and our guest speaker generated much excitement!

Mike Fuqua had the pleasure of introducing SDSU Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Brian Dutcher, who was accompanied by his wife, Jan. Coach Dutcher immediately received a robust welcome and gave an energizing and entertaining presentation about his 30-year college coaching career. Brian was inspired by his father, Jim Dutcher, who was head coach at Eastern Michigan and University of Minnesota. He shared his experiences and insights, including the players he coached (some went on to become NBA stars); changing rules; relocating his family; player compensation, etc. He enjoyed working with Steve Fisher and is grateful to be the head coach at SDSU. He graciously answered many questions until President Terry Heck reluctantly had to call a time out😊. Great presentation! Brian and Jan Dutcher have been married for 40 years and are 25-year residents of Rancho Bernardo. Their two daughters and families also live in RB. Cheryl Roop presented a book to Coach Dutcher for his signature. The book will be donated to the Bernardo Heights Middle School Library.

President Terry announced that our Club has again received a special Club Citation in recognition of achieving our goals for the year 2023/24! Congratulations to Past President Jim Reid and our members!

Troy Daum, a friend to many in our Club and a 30-year Rotary member, was inducted as an Honorary Member. Troy was thanked for his many years of service, and we hope that he and Patricia will join us at future club events.

President Terry collected lots of happy bucks; many in honor of Troy. Troy also contributed.
