RANCHO BERNARDO ROTARY CLUB
August 2, 2018
The meeting was called to order by President Doug, who led us in the Rotary pledge.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jim Hyldahl, who spoke of another flag, the Medal of Honor flag, and gave some history and details of the Medal of Honor.
The Inspirational message was given by Alan Turner, who spoke of his inspiration for joining Rotary, about Rotary being a group of people generously working together for the benefit of others, not only locally, but around the world.
Jim Sommer was the greeter today.  He welcomed several visiting Rotarians, including our District Governor, Mel Gallegos, and his wife, Judy, “Queen of Clubs”, and several members of the Route 78 Rotary Club. Visitors were welcomed and Jim led the Welcome Song.

President Doug thanked today’s volunteers: Scribe, Rz Norris, Front Desk, Joel Doss, Kathy Glover and Benita Page. The Set Up Crew, Paul Donnick and Pat Chaffee. Photographer James Kaspar, and Meeting Coordinator, John O’Neill.
Ron Hunt spoke of the success of this years International Music Camp. The three week camp brought 17 young musicians from around Europe, Canada and Taiwan, together with the San Diego Youth Symphony for two weeks of rehearsal, giving several performances with the final concert on July 28th, at the Escondido Performing Arts center.   The final week for the musicians was fun and explore time, with the farewell party at Jim Hyldahls’ home.  Ron was given a Service Above Self coin for his 14 years of work with this program.  Ron also continues as our Speaker Chair.
Vern Cook is heading up the Salvation Army Back to School  drive.  He says the program needs more back packs as well as school supplies.  The “stuffing” activity is scheduled for August 11th.
President Doug and his wife, Jess, have scheduled a TGIX party for August 24th at their home.  He will send out an email invitation to all.  Doug also mentioned signing up for a bus trip to Tijuana on 8/18, for our members to access how our club can assist the Tijuana Club with their projects.  The bus will pick up and drop off at the border.

The Club Fundraising Project, working with the Rancho Bernardo Historical Society, “Vines and Vittles”, is still looking for volunteers to solicit business sponsors to raise money for the program.  The event is scheduled for July 4, 2019, but is deeply in the planning stage. Anyone with business company contacts is asked to give their name to Doug for future contact.
Arilla St. Laurent reported that Karen Stelman had surgery.  Fine Master, John O’Neill, was in his usual fine form, extracting fines (and Happy Bucks), from the group.
Pat Chaffee introduced this weeks’ speaker, Club member Alex Robertson. Alex is associated with Peak Logic, a medical research company specializing in drug free, non-invasive treatment of brain disorders, such as PTSD and ADHD, as well as other clinical brain trauma following concussion and stroke. His guest (Gregg), a Navy Seal, testified to the success of this treatment. The speakers gift book was presented to, and signed, by Alex.
Dan Barrios, Foundation Chair, thanked those members who have switched to direct deposit for their donations.  It saves him a lot of time.  He also presented a Paul Harris Foundation pin to our speaker, Alex Robertson.
