Meeting of April 7th, 2022

President Athenea opened the meeting on Thursday evening with our regular announcements.
Our other activities had to be put on hold until next week as we had a very special speaker that needed a little extra time to speak.
Rose Schindler, 92 years old, was our special guest and had quite a story to tell.  She was one of thousands of Jewish people that were interned in camps when Hitler came in to power in 1938.  They were held until the spring of 1944.  The whole time they were there, they were only allowed to have one dress and one pair of shoes.   Luckily she had her sisters with her and they all worked in the  Auschwitz prison camp.  They stayed together as it was the only way they could possibly survive what was happening in the camps.
The men were systematically removed and executed while they kept the girls working (thank goodness).
Gas chambers were also used daily for mass killings.
She met her husband in the camp and eventually married him  in Scotland.  They were the first couple to be married 9 months later.  A happy ending to a very serious number of years  in captivity.
Kleenex boxes we put on every table and were needed!  It was a great, detailed description of the brutality they experienced for many years.  Her son accompanied her and prompted her when she needed it.  What a marvelous story with a happy ending.

We were blessed by their presence and learned so much from her strength to survive those many years!

Respectfully submitted,
