Meeting Minutes

April 25, 2019
Today we had a “table scramble” to break up seating cliques; members drew numbers at the check-in desk and sat at the table with that number. President Doug brought the meeting to order and led us in reciting the 4 Way Test. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Vern Cook, and   Toby Westbrook inspired us with a discussion of the phrase “in pursuit of happiness”.
Our greeter was Judy Lutticken who introduced our guests including Joe Leventhal who has applied to become a member.  Joel Doss lead us with baton in hand in a raucous, somewhat offkey rendition of our fabulous Welcome Song.
Doug thanked our volunteers:  room setup by Jim Reid and Paul Donick; check-in by Joel Doss, Lou Anna Dickerson and Arilla St. Laurent; meeting pictures by James Kaspar; Bill Angus for doing the newsletter; meeting organization by John O’Neill and these words by your humble scribe, Dave Brooks.
Foundation chair Dan Barrios recognized Doug as an enhanced contributor to the Paul Harris Fellow fund.
Doug pitched the Wine Caravan one last time.  It is taking place this Sunday, April 28th.  We will meet at the Albertson’s at Pomerado and RB Road at 11:30am.
Vern Cook reminded us to bring donations of underwear and socks for veterans attending Stand Down.
Sandie Dewane said we have 29 attending the visit to Lions, Tigers and Bears in Alpine on May 15th.  Please pay her $37 per person.
The next concert by the Poway Symphony will be an all-Beethoven program and it takes place on Sunday, May 19th at the Poway Center for Performing Arts.  You can purchase tickets starting here:  www.powaysymphonyorchestra.org.
Mike Fuqua reminded all the Old Geezers that there will be a meeting to plan Doug’s demotion after the club meeting.  He also reported that Vines & Vittles is on track with all committees meeting regularly.

Club foundation president Don Glover said that new foundation board members are needed to replace those leaving the board.  Please contact him if you are interested in applying.
Thanks to Sgt. at Arms Jim Reid for putting up the club banners.  He will be making more out of the new banners we have collected.

In an early Rotarians at Work mini-project, John Goodrich and your scribe stripped, primed and painted the base of our clock in Webb Park.  It is now keeping perfect time and looks great for the thousands who will attend RB Alive!, Spirit of the Fourth and Vines & Vittles.
Jim Hyldahl introduced our speaker Dave Jones who spoke about how we can improve mental health.
Future dates:
May 4th Rotarians at Work, Seven Oaks Community Center 7am.
May 23rd Scholarship presentations, we will be outside at the Pavilion.
May 30th RYLA students will be attending and speaking about their experiences in April.

The Rotary Foundation Gala 4.29.19
It was an enjoyable evening meeting and sharing with fellow Rotarians and hearing about how our contributions to The Rotary Foundation have made a difference in the world.
