Minutes from the meeting of April 13th…

Our President opened the meeting with the Four Way Test and led us in the Pledge. We welcomed our guests with our musical rendition led by maestro Joel Doss.

We have a busy schedule coming up with many service activities and community events. Rotary Club RB Sunrise has invited us to their Real Estate Roundtable on April 18th. Then on Sat 22nd it’s all hands to the pumps for our Community Cleanup at Oaks North.
On Apr 25th we return to a meeting with RB Sunrise to hear the moving story from Olga Illinska as she describes her harrowing escape from Ukraine.
On April 29th we have two choices for members, either to participate in the NAMIwalk downtown at Liberty Station, or to celebrate the presentation to our club nominee for Hats Off To Volunteers – Sandie Dewane.

We then enjoyed one of our favorite tasks, we made a check presentation to Joe Perucca for St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center. The Center has been serving adults with developmental disabilities for over 50 years. The check for $1,200 was made possible by a matching gift from Maguy Feghali and Arilla St. Laurent and our Club Foundation.
Arilla then continued with a positive update on the Family of Rotary – it was great to see many members returning to the club. She also stood in as Fine Mistress and Happy Bucks.

Pat Chaffee was happy to report that our club collected $914 last month in Happy Bucks plus $800 club payment that were donated to ShelterBox to help the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria. The club members also donated $1,300 through the Club Foundation plus a grant from the Foundation of $1,000. Altogether over $4,000 was sent to ShelterBox.

Alan and Mike then provided an update for Vines & Vittles. We are now signing up volunteers for the event at the website https://vinesandvittlesfestival.com. The Food & Beverage team are doing a great job and already have a great selection of vendors. The Sponsor team were excited to report that we have exceeded our target and have received pledges of $68,000. This is thanks to the generosity of our members and to many local organizations – well done all. The Sponsor team also reminded members that they hope to do even better before we finish the event this year.

Mike Fuqua then introduced our speaker, Debbie Velasquez from Braver Angels.

Debbie made a passionate presentation on how Braver Angels works to bridge the partisan divide by getting people to speak together through workshops and debates and many other events. You can learn more about Braver Angels and upcoming events at their website here https://braverangels.org/

Next meeting is April 20th
Speaker is Maren Kavanagh – I Love a Clean San Diego
