Meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.by President Benita following a great buffet dinner. Bob Barr led the pledge noting basic American's right to dissent, alluding to current situation of football player not standing to USA Anthem before games. Different members opinions were expressed, representing  the diversity that typifies the freedoms Americans enjoy.

Gary Saks presented a video in tribute to the anniversary of 9-11. At President Benita's request we shared memories and experiences of that day.  Lou Anna Dickerson provided her inspirational message. Mike Fuqua, Greeter, assisted acknowledging our 9 guests for the evening and Gary Saks led our welcoming song.

President Benita thanked the meeting volunteers: Scribe, Sonny Googins; Front Desk, Joel Doss; and Karen Stelman; Set-up, Doug Dawson; Photographer, James  Kaspar.  Karen Stelman updated us on family of rotary and made available a book to borrow, "The Road to Rotary" written by Rotary Founder, Paul Harris. Many members have responded to Mike F.'s survey on Rotary and others were encouraged to respond. Results will be revealed later. Toby Westbrook will received his Gold Badge next meeting.

Dick Norfolk presented his "Who Am I" as last stage of his full membership initiation, noting his route from South Dakota to California and his career of managing major retail corporate/design centers over his lifetime. It is interesting to note that Dick, his Dad and brother contracted Polio in his youth and all, fortunately, recovered with no paralytic effects.  Part of his earlier career included being a HS teacher and football coach. He and wife enjoy 4 kids and 12 grandkids.

Fine Master, John O'Neill, raked in the dough with 'caught you in photos' along with good will "Happy Bucks" donated by members!

Vern Cook introduced Councilman Mark Kersey who arrived before seven p.m. He updated us on various Propositions, many now called 'measures,'  in the upcoming election. Topics ranged from Balboa Park,   legalizing marijuana, the  two Chargers football stadiums proposals, and local issues of parking problems in the Westbrook residential areas, Palomar College expansion. Also extensive street repair and reconstruction for San Diego and RB has been on-going with over $190 million being currently spent. An 'all-access ' trail opened at Black Mt. for the disabled.
Appropriate to Councilman Kersey's discussion, President Benita offered these parting thoughts: "Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and celebrate the journey." And "No matter how big a hammer you use, you can't pound sense into some people."

The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 P.M. by President Benita.
Respectfully submitted,
Sonny Googins, Scribe *:) happy
