President Mike called the meeting at Bernardo Heights Country Club to order at 6:00 P.M..  Steve LaPointe lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance reminding us that "civil discord prevails at this time." President Mike added that 'the art of disagreement is about learning what the other side thinks." Doug Dawson presented the Inspirational Message and Lou Anna Dickerson was the Greeter. I counted 16 guests, plus our Speaker Jessica Empeno  and friend  Ann Owen.

Gary Saks led the song. President Mike thanked the volunteers: Sonny Googins, Scribe, Front Desk, Joel Doss, Arilla St. Laurent , Dan Malloy and Bob Barr. Set-Up, Paul Donnick and Judy Lutticken. Photographer, James Kaspar completed the Crew!

Karen Stelman reminded all of the October 22 Witch Creek Fire anniversary event at Webb Park 11-2 P.M. Scott Lawn reminded all of  the fund raider for Alex as RB Honorary Mayor-Casino Night at Gateway. No takers for the auction of the Aztec Tickets donated by Rossmans.
Jon Harris told us, as the last task of his Red Badge path to Rotary, both "Who am I" and "What am I."  One of 5 boys born and raised in Wtchita Kansas, attended Boise State , a career as a Naval Officer, Aviator and current life as a volunteer, ski patrol and Pomerado Hospital.Welcome to the Gold Badge status!
Fine Master John O'Neill gathered Happy Bucks and sought fines from new car owners (guess who) and others.
Bob Vaughn introduced Jessica Empeno and Ann Owen of Alzheimer's San Diego. One main point is that this is a local, not national organization and every dollar stays in San Diego. She spoke of the nuances of Alzheimers, the upcoming October 22nd Walk and presented astounding statistics such as 65,000 people in San Diego alone have the disease and that "Research is Key!"
Wear your Rotary shirts when Janice Kurth, PDG of 5340, The Rotary Foundation, visits us October 9. October 26 Jack Hughes of San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy will present.

A significant quote presented by President Mike closed the meeting at 7:00 P.M.: "The Rotary Foundation is not to build monuments of brick and stone. If we work upon marble, it will perish; if we work on brass, time will effect; if we rear temples they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon immortal minds...we are engraving on those tablets something that will brighten all eternity."   Arch C. Klumph, December 1928

Respectfully , Sonny Googins, Scribe
