President Mike opened the meeting, reciting the Rotary motto, followed by Rick Bramble leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The Inspirational Message was given by Cathy Glover, speaking of how Acts of Kindness benefit both giver and receiver.

The Greeter today was David King, who led the introduction of Visiting Rotarians and members’ guests, then lead us in the Club Welcome Song.

President Mike made the following announcements: The TGIX/Dictionary Project labeling party at Toby’s house scheduled for Dec. 2nd , has been postponed until January. The dictionaries are still sitting in a warehouse in LA. The RB Journal recognized the RB Rotary Club donation of trees to Abraxas School. Thank you letters from Abraxas and the PKD Foundation, which received a $2000 grant, were recognized. Cathy Glover is still taking orders for the See’s Candy Fundraiser, and Shirley Napierala is still collecting checks for the Holiday Adopt a Family program.

The Club Holiday Party will be Dec. 14th , at the Bernardo Heights Country Club, at our usual 5:00 pm, Thursday evening meeting. Choice of four entrees (one vegetarian), are available. The program will feature the RB High School Madrigal singers. Reservation must be in by the Dec. 7th meeting. The Poinsettia Fund raiser plants pick up will be Sat., Dec. 2nd , at Karen Stelman’s home, beginning at 10:00 am. Our Club purchased 21 boxes of Poinsettia, for a total of $540.

Bell Ringing is also scheduled for Dec. 2nd to help collect funds for the Salvation Army. Sign ups are for two hour shifts. Rick Bramble mentioned a fundraiser by “Wreaths Across America”, which strives to place Holiday wreaths at the grave sites at National Cemeteries all over the country. Doug Dawson had 4 more tickets to the RB Chorale performance Dec. 10th . Those were grabbed quickly.
Don Glover said the Club currently has 37 members signed up for the RI Convention in Toronto. He is hoping the Club will bring that number up to 40. John Kasser reminded the group that he is hoping for another 100% contribution to the Rotary Foundation this year.

Paul Donnick and Joel Doss were awarded the Service Above Self coins.


Club auctioneer, Arilla St. Laurent presented a gift pack of two bottles of wine. Bidding was won by Doug Dawson. A painting donated by Susan and David King was also put up for auction. That was taken by Rz Norris, who will donate the painting to the Casa Foundation Hall Art.

Bob Vaughn introduced this weeks speaker, Jeffrey Seay, retired NCIS Special Agent and author. He explained that NCIS is charged with protecting our Nations secrets. He was stationed in the Far East. Jim Hyldahl presented the Speakers’ Gift, “Jobs in the Field of Forensics”.

Up coming programs: Dec. 7th , Rose Schindler, a Holocaust Survivor, and on Dec. 14th , the RB Rotary Club Holiday Party, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
President Mike in closing quoted: “The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference”, Elie Wiesel, and “All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing”, Edmund Burke.

A Christmas card signing for the military was held following the meeting today.
