Deadline for Adopt-A-Family - December 5

Update:  Please make your contribution by Monday, December 5.   The quickest and easiest  way is to give Dan Malloy a check on December 1.

Dear Generous Rotarian,

For the past several years we’ve adopted low income families who reside in the Poway Unified School District.  We started out with one family; however, our generous Rotarian members donate sufficient funds to support this program for two families.   This year the first family has parents and two teenagers.   The second family has parents and three young children.

Our contributions will pay for gifts for the young children as well as gift cards for the parents and the teenagers.   The gift cards are for supermarkets, gas, and stores such as Walmart and Target.

Your donation is tax deductible IF you make your check payable to “Rancho Bernardo Rotary Foundation” with a notation on the memo line of “Adopt-A-Family.”

Please give your check to Dan Malloy at a meeting OR mail to him at:
Rancho Bernardo Rotary Club Foundation
P.O. Box 28501
San Diego, CA 92198-0501

The DEADLINE is December 5.

Celebration of 100th. Anniversary of Rotary foundation and November and December Birthdays.

The meeting was called to order by President Benita at noon. This was followed by Mira Bozanich's comments before the pledge that told the history of Thanksgiving.  Troy Daum in his inspiration mixed history with humor reminding us that President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1863 and a Johnny Carson quote that noted  that "it was an occasion to visit family one time a year only to discover that it was too often!" Visiting Rotarians were introduced  and Special Guests Scott Carr, Disrict Governor Elect and Janice Kurth, Past District Governor. Also Susan Griffin and Jennifer Allan.

Volunteers for the meeting were thanked: Sonny Googins, Scribe, front Des, troy Daum and Judy Lutticken, Set-Up, Judy , Doug Dawson and Paul Donick, Photographer, James Kasper.

Announcements included: Reminder of elections for subsequent Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer;  Thanked volunteers and leaders who did 1200 Holiday Greeting Cards, reminder of the     Holiday Party at Jim Hyldahl's home on December 8; Shelter Box to Italy ($1,000 donation) Thanks to Interfaith volunteers Nov. 12th. event. Doug Dawson reminded us of the RB Chorale upcoming performances. And finally, notify Rz Norris if you plan to attend the holiday party. Cost is $25 per person last call at Dec.1st. meeting. Karen Stelman reported on Family of Rotary; Jim Edwards is recovering at Remington.

December Service Projects of Adopt A family (Shirley) and Boys & girls Club (Vern) dog toys for Project Wildlife were reported .  The Dictionary Project is now being managed by Toby Westbrook and Cathy Glover. Dec. 10 at Toby's home for the labeling. Tables/chairs needed.

Don Glover presented Club Foundation Awards to Larry Valente in behalf of Hannah's House and to Kathleen Smith for Palomar Hospital Lifeline.

All enjoyed a beautiful Autumn themed cake celebrating 100 Years of the Foundation and members November and December Birthdays.
Our fine 'fine master'  John collected Happy Bucks for reasons as varied as celebratory mustaches and trips.

James Kaspar introduced Janice Kurth, Past District Governor who helped us celebrate 100 Years of the Rotary Foundation. She traced its history and Global Focus from bringing warring African Tribes together to share resources and the most special project being the effort of eradicate Polio in the world. The smallest efforts have grown to note that  Bill Gates donating $687million recognized how the power of the Foundation has gained influence over the years. Statistics supported our good works through the Foundation. She emphasized the role of Paul Harris Fellows and encouraged support of that effort.  Janice  was most inspirational with her fervor and dedication to Rotary over the years. Janice is someone to be thankful for who reminded us also of the Power of Rotary!  She had signed the book for our donation.

President Benita left us with these appropriate words: "Remember you reap what you sow. What you put into the lives of others comes back into your own. "

Next meetings: December 1. Stonebridge.
