RB Rotary meeting minutes - September 3, 2015
The meeting was called to order by President Arilla with our new tag line: “the Rotary club with 50+ years of making a difference in our community and the world”. The pledge was led by Dan Barrios and Mike Fuqua provided inspiration giving us a quote from Theodore Roosevelt he heard in his Navy days. President-elect and greeter Benita Page introduced visiting Rotarian Danny Sherlock and guest R D Lawrence. Past president Gary Saks was once again pressed into service to lead us in our beloved welcome song.
Arilla thanked the following for their help at this meeting: Sonny Googins and Frances Blair at the check-in desk; Paul Donick and Vern Cook for room setup; James Kaspar for his fine photos; Bill Angus for assembling the weekly newsletter; John Hawkins for tickling those ivory keys and scribing by me, Dave Brooks.
The Family of Rotary is all OK. Past president Shirley Napierala said BHCC would be dark on October 8th and we will be meeting at a location to be determined. New member Madelyn Reina said there would be a TGIX party on September 25th at her house. Pizza will be served!
Arilla announced that the next Rotary night at the Padres will be on September 5th vs. the Dodgers. There was a collective sigh for our floundering team. She also said that we are beginning the Dictionary Project once again, so be ready to label and deliver. Lastly, she brought past-president Charley Crew to the podium and gave him an award recognizing him for doing an outstanding job bringing in new members.
Finemaster John O’Neill did his usual great job of bringing in lots of dollars in a humorous way. The most memorable Happy Bucks were given by Scott Robertson who got married last weekend! After all the fines had been collected, Arilla gave cookies to the biggest donor, and that turned out to be Charley. She said she will do this again from time to time at future meetings.Past president and speaker chair Bob Vaughn then introduced Kent Porter, who spoke to us about the “Art of Telling the Truth”. It was a very interesting talk, and even though Rotary reminds us to always ask: “is it the Truth?” we learned that we can do a better job in our relationships at work and home.
