RB Rotary Meeting Minutes from October 30, 2014
The Pledge was led by Joe MaxOpening Inspirational Thought was given by John Hawkins
Our Greeter was Mira Bozanich who brought her own scary Halloween music!
We were glad to welcome third time visitor Tom Smith as well as our own Troy Daum (who we don't get to see enough of these days!)
Thanks to our weekly Volunteers:
Set Up: Vern Cook, Bill Bonner and Paul Donick
Front Desk: Rick Bramble
Music: John Hawkins
Scribe: Jeanne Hawkins
Photographer: James Kaspar
Special thanks to room decorators Mira Bozanich, Arilla St Laurent and Karen Stelman for getting us all in the mood for Halloween. A handful of members arrived in festive Halloween-ware, but President Don was the standout in his Donald Duck outfit. Apparently ducks don't have great vision as this duck walked straight into the Bernardo Heights Country Club fountain. Fortunately no bones were broken, just a lot of wet feathers.
Family of Rotary: Pat Kenney is resting at home after a broken shoulder from a fall she had while vacationing in Europe. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Pat!
John O'Neill continues to improve and we're looking forward to seeing him on December 4th! We miss you John!
President Don started the "Senior Moment" portion of our weekly meeting, but couldn't remember where he put it. How fitting!
President Don gave a recap of 5340's District Conference held October 24-26 in the Palm Springs area. Our Club was the proud winner of the First Runner Up Award for Friday evening's Hospitality Suite. Thanks to Frances Blair for her authentic Indonesian decorations, John Hawkins for his cocktail music, John Goodrich for his bling vendor table and all those members who brought appetizers and attended this special evening in the desert. And... behind the scenes thanks go to Deborah Goodrich who tracked down the one microwave (circa 1980) in the entire complex to heat the appetizers. Apparently John Goodrich and Don Glover think crockpots work a lot faster than they do!Announcements:
Karen Stelman reminded us of the December 4th party at Maderas to celebrate our Club's 50th Anniversary. This is a special night and every single one of us wants to be there to celebrate!President Don read a letter from the folks at Ronald McDonald House thanking us for our donation and our volunteer servers helping out the many families who are living at Ronald McDonald House while their kids are fighting life threatening diseases at Children's Hospital.
Foundation President Benita Page handed out this year's Foundation forms. Please give from your heart!
President Elect Arilla announced the dictionaries should be arriving today and the Label Party will be scheduled soon!
Once again Arilla coaxed Fines and Happy Bucks including those celebrating wet ducks, World Series winners, newly published books (congratulations Don Lisio!) and always the best: good medical news.
Past President Gary Saks introduced our speaker Kevin Viner, an award-winning magician at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood. Kevin gave us a fascinating and interactive presentation that went well beyond card tricks and into a lesson on how the mind works. For more information: http://www.kevinvinermagic.comKaren Stelman gave the closing inspirational thought and President Don adjourned another great meeting of the Rotary Club of Rancho Bernardo.
Our next meeting is November 6th at noon. Our speaker is Farouk Al-Nasser, Ph.D. : "The ISIS Crisis in the Middle East: The region and the rest of the world"
