May 7, 2015 Rotary meeting notes

President Don Glover called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m.  Ron Hunt led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Mike Fuqua gave the opening inspirational thought.  Madelyn Reina introduced the visiting Rotarians and guests.  The welcome song sounded much better this week, thanks to Jeanne Hawkins, whose piano accompaniment greatly enhanced our singing!

Don thanked today’s volunteers:  Paul Donick for set-up; Shirley Napierala and Sonny Googins for check-in; John Hawkins on the piano; James Kaspar, photographer and Sandie Dewane, scribe.  He also thanked Bill Angus for the excellent job he does in getting the minutes out to the membership each week.  The minutes are a great resource for all of us.

Family of Rotary:  Mira Bozanich reported that Lane Elliott has now moved to her brother’s home and is on hospice.  Lew Tyler has completed chemotherapy and will be having blood transfusions.  Sherry Collins is facing more aggressive chemotherapy.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lane, Lew and Sherry.

John O’Neill announced that we have about 75 golfers so far and we hope to have 100 for the tournament on May 18th.  Registration closes at 11:30 p.m. on May 11th.  Sonny announced that she has received donations for 70 flags for the tournament.

Benita Page had the pleasure of presenting a check to the Boys & Girls Club in the amount of $2,000.  Fines and Happy Bucks were collected by our esteemed Fine Master John O’Neill.  James Kaspar’s shirt looked pink to John, which means a fine.  James disputed the color, but to no avail, as John asked for show of hands from the membership and almost everyone agreed that it was pink, resulting in James paying a fine. Big surprise there!

John Goodrich introduced Laura Wetly from SDG&E as today’s speaker.  Jim Hyldahl presented the speaker gift and as always, was very creative in connecting the speaker’s topic with a book.

Next week’s meeting is on May 14th and it is in the evening.  The program is an “Evening with Vincent Young.”  Vincent plays and discusses songs associated with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and others.  Should be a great meeting.  Please invite spouses and guests.

Paul Donick gave the closing inspirational thought.  The meeting was adjourned.
