Rotary meeting minutes 5/14/15
Our erudite president Don Glover called the evening meeting to order by thanking volunteers Cathy Glover for the pledge, Gary Saks as greeter, John Kasser for the Opening Inspirational Thought and John O’Neill as scribe. For the meeting set up he thanked Dan Malloy and Scott Robertson, plus Shirley Napierala, Sonny Googins and Bob Barr for manning the check-in. Also thanked was our excellent club photographer, James Kaspar. Gary Saks continued his pursuit of trying to improve on our ancient welcome song.Bill Angus, estimable Chairman of the annual Fairway To Honor golf tournament, reported that the tournament is only four days away. So far, we have 32 active military golfers and 42 Rotary members, friends and supporters.
Our Family of Rotary report from Mira Bozanich announced the death of Honorary Member, Lane Elliot, from cancer. The members held a moment of silence in her memory.President Don reminded us that there is a Padres game on May 20th. Ron Hunt announced that our RB Rotary Foundation is funding a dozen $1000 scholarship grants to students attending our two local high schools. Ron also informed us that there is more than $530k in our in foundation.
Finemaster John O’Neill tried to go easy on the members, but could not pass the chance to fine Charley Crew for failing to introduce his guest. This consistent failure to recognize Barb and guests is welcomed by the finemaster. Keep it going, Charley!
Our program featured a remarkable performance by pianist and singer, Vincent Young. Vincent is blind, which does not present a handicap in any way. His songs were from the Rat Pack era and the 40’s and 50’s. He provided fascinating background facts regarding the singers, songs and bands. The performance was mesmerizing. We hope to get Vincent back again for an encore performance. Bravo!President Don adjourned the meeting announcing that the next meeting will be the presentation of the Rotary Scholarship Awards.
