Rotary meeting minutes 3/12/15
Our intrepid president Don Glover called the meeting to order by thanking volunteers Maguy Feghali for the pledge, Lou Anna Dickerson as greeter, Mike Fuqua for the Opening Inspirational Thought and John O’Neill as scribe. For the meeting set up he thanked Vern Cook, plus Frances Blair and Rick Bramble for manning the check-in. Our original, 150 year old welcome song was delivered with gusto to the visitors and guests.Bill Angus, esteemed Chairman of the annual Fairway To Honor golf tournament, reminded everyone that the big fundraiser is a little over two months away. Our focus right now is asking our members and their friends to sponsor an active duty military service member to support our 50 for 50 initiative. This represents a tie-in with celebrating our club’s 50th anniversary with sponsoring at least 50 active duty military service members and wounded warriors to join us in the tournament.
Frances reminded us that there is one week remaining for our Interfaith food drive. Please bring any canned or dry goods that can be used to support this fine organization in its mission. President Don announced that there would be a District Training Assembly on March 21st. He then presented new member, Russ Haskell, with his permanent gold badge. Congratulations, Russ!
RB Rotary Foundation president, Benita Page, called up club members to receive their Paul Harris pins. Honored were Mira Bozanich, Rick Bramble, Lou Anna Dickerson, Larry Saunders, Bob Barr, Vern Cook, Bill Angus and Don Glover.

Finemaster John O’Neill fined several members for not wearing the green in honor of St. Patick’s Day. He reminded members that this is not just a holiday, but also a season running from the week before to the week after St. Patrick’s Day. John took a minute to recognize the $19k+ contributions to the Rotary Foundation by former club president, Karen Stelman. Karen generously contributes a $1000 per year to the Foundation. Our speaker was former local NBC news anchor Susan Taylor. Susan has joined Scripps Health in a role focused on representing Scripps to community and patient groups and leaders throughout the region.
As executive director of external affairs, Taylor will play an active and critical role in raising awareness and understanding in support of Scripps programs, facilities, and services throughout the region and in educating a broad range of audiences about the significant changes under way in health care locally and nationally. She took the time to educate us on many of the cutting edge things that Scripps does for our local population.
