Rotary meeting minutes 7/23/15
Standing in for vacationing President Arilla, former Madame President Karen Stelman reawakened her dormant presidential skills by skillfully guiding a wildly successful meeting. Karen brought the meeting to order by thanking volunteers Bob Vaughn for the pledge, Don Glover as greeter, Sonny Googins for the Opening Inspirational Thought and John O’Neill as scribe. For the meeting set up she thanked Paul Donick, plus Frances Blair for manning the check-in desk. Also thanked was our excellent club photographer, James Kaspar. There were no guests so, regretfully; we were unable to sing our welcome song. Our Family of Rotary report from Paul Donick concerned the hospitalization of Bill Bonner, who was suffering pain and having trouble walking.
Stand-in, temporary, part-time relief President Karen reminded us that there are Padres games on August 10th and September 5th. There is also a District Membership Rally on August 1st from 8:00am until noon at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, located at USD. Also coming up is a District 5340 dinner on August 4th at Cordiano Winery, which is off Highland Valley Road in San Juan Pasqual Valley (Escondido). The cost per person is $50, with $25 of that subsidized by the club. Make your $25 checks payable to RB Rotary Club for one member and $50 each for guests and we will forward the full amount to the District.
Finemaster John O’Neill fined Vern Cook for wearing a lovely pinkish Rotary shirt. He then formally announced that Frances Blair will be offering future hugs for $1 each. Those who decline a hug will be charged $5. Many members donated Happy Bucks. Thank you for your generosity. Our program featured Steve Andres, a docent at Midway Museum. This formidable ship has become the #1 tourist attraction in San Diego. He answered many historical questions and invited us all to visit the Midway.
Former President Karen adjourned the meeting and announced that the next meeting will feature Rob Weinberg and Paul Gorman talking about new Rotary Grant opportunities.John O’Neill -- Scribe
