July 16, 2015
Newly elected President Arilla called the meeting to order a little early due to a busy schedule. Her thanks went out to Mike Fuqua who led the pledge, Maguy Feghali our greeter, and Gary Saks who led us in our welcoming song. As always, James Kaspar was our crack photographer. Stephanie Wolterman brought her darling baby boy, Henry, to our meeting. He truly lights up the room!
Dave Brooks gave a Family of Rotary report on Steve LaPointe's condition. He had a malignant tumor removed from his kidney and is staying with his sister in Temecula while recovering. Mira reported that Lew Tyler has gone to Oregon to stay with his daughter while continuing chemo treatments for Leukemia. We wish them both well. Frances told us that Sherry Collins, a former member who moved to La Quinta, has been fighting the good fight for several years but her cancer seems to be getting the upper hand. Please send a personal greeting of encouragment to one or all of our members to let them know you're thinking of them. Their names and addresses can be found in our roster and hopefully their mail will be forwarded to them. Cards and emails only.
Dates to remember: Refer to the District Newsletter for details.
Rotary District Membership Rally: Sat., Aug. 1st from 8 a.m. to noon at the Joan Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice. Very informative for club presidents, membership chairs and new Rotarians. It will be very informative. Car pools can be arranged.
Boy Scout Cameron Dastrup from Troop #685 is embarking on an Eagle Scout project to build a permanent walking path at Turtleback Elementary School and he asked for our assistance in contributing to this project that will cost about $2000. We passed the hat and I'm sure our generous group raised a good deal of money for him.
Johnny O did a FINE job again. He raised money for our club by auctioning off a dish garden and a dried wreath. Hands went up pretty slowly but he got the job done and then asked for Happy Bucks.

It is very important that every member read the weekly newsletter as that is where our assignments are posted. If you can't make that meeting, please call someone to take your place or trade with them.

Car pools can be arranged.Because Troy Daum was absent for our Demotion Party, Arilla swore him in as Treasurer for our current year and gave him a pin and badge to make it official. He is replacing Rick Bramble who has devoted his time and efforts to our club for the past couple of years. Thanks Rick!
Mike Fuqua announced a meeting of The Dirty Dozen (you know who you are) immediately following our club meeting. The turnout was light but I'm sure you'll be informed of any progress that has been made. What an exciting group of new Rotarians we have! The "newbees" are trying to come up with suggestions for new projects. Way to go!!
Miki Ding, who has spoken to our club before, is competing in the American/Asian Pageant and asked for help to further her studies at UC Berkeley.
Arilla read a few of the many Thank You notes sent to our club. They came from scholarship recipients, Wounded Warriors, The Ronald McDonald House, and The Shelter Box which was sent to the earthquake victims in Nepal.
Johnny O did a FINE job again. He raised money for our club by auctioning off a dish garden and a dried wreath. Hands went up pretty slowly but he got the job done and then asked for Happy Bucks. In Bob Vaughns' absence, John Goodrich introduced our speaker, Deanna Kyrimis, Executive Director of ARCH Health Partners. She has a long background in managing health partnerships, most recently as past CEO at the New Mexico Heart Institute. It's interesting to note that California cannot employ physicians at their hospitals. They must contract with them. ARCH Partners is a non profit group of primary care physicians who co-ordinate patient care with other services needed. They work primarily with Palomar Health in Escondido and Pomerado Hospital in Poway. They have a Value Based Mission to offer quality and service to their patients. With this unique net working service, the patient is closely followed from his first appointment to hospital care, rehab, or home care if necessary. Jim H. did another spectacular book presentation!
Our next weeks speaker will be Steve Andres, Docent from the Midway Museum (and fellow Rotarian). Should be very interesting. See you next week.
