President Don called the meeting to order and asked John Kasser to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Ed Knight then provided an inspirational thought.  Greeter James Kaspar then introduced a large group of guests that included Steven Davis of the Escondido After 5 club, Bill Caten from Bonsall and many spouses including Dee Saks, Joyce Hunt, Karen Sommer and Barb Crew.
Our president then thanked the following for their efforts:  Frances Blair, Rick Bramble and Sonny Googins for running the check-in table, Bill Bonner and Vern Cook for setting up the room, John Hawkins for piano tunes, James Kaspar for his fine photographs and Dave Brooks for scribing these very words.
Mira Bozanich said the Family of Rotary was healthy.  She also told us that we needed volunteers for Rotarians at Work on April 25th; we would be making sandwiches for Interfaith Community Services in Escondido.  She was also contacting Ed Brown Senior Center to see if they had projects for us.
Past President Bill Angus updated us on the Fairway to Honor golf tournament:  we have 30 signed up so far.  Please talk to Sandie Dewane about sponsorship opportunities and we would appreciate receiving your payment by April 23rd.
President Don proudly told us of our progress with donations to The Rotary Foundation.  We have achieved 100% participation in the Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) campaign.  Our per capital giving is $431/person making us #1 in District 5340.
Sonny Googins gave her Who Am I talk about her fascinating life.  She served in the Connecticut state legislature and has been married to Robert for 57 years.  She has 16 grandchildren and her son Glen is city attorney for the City of Chula Vista.  President Don then gave her her gold badge, congratulations, Sonny!
Jim Sommer and Stephanie Wolterman then told us about the Model UN program conducted by D5340. We are sending 2 students each from RB and Del Norte High Schools to this event which takes place the weekend of April 11th.  The students are each assigned to represent a country and present a resolution on a current topic (e.g. domestic violence).  Each of our four students rehearsed their resolutions by presenting them to the club.
Past president Ron Hunt then introduced our speaker Renata Succo.  Renata is a violinist from Sardinia, Italy and was a 2009 participant in MusiCamp.  She has now returned to study in the US. She played 4 pieces for us that were fabulous!
