President Benita called the meeting to order, reminding us that March is Women's History Month.
Vern Cook and our new member, Phil Warner, orchestrated putting all the collected personnel hygiene products in small baggies after the meeting today. They both took all the bags to Interfaith Services in Escondido to be handed out to the less fortunate. It was a great humanitarian project. Thanks to them and all that helped!
Benita had the pleasure of inducting Sally Rovner into our club today. Sally is a retired Real Estate agent and is anxious to join in our goals of helping to make this world a better place. Arilla is her sponsor and Cathy Glover will be her Mentor. Congratulations and welcome aboard!
Karen gave the Family of Rotary Report. Brian Flaherty will be out for about one month as he undergoes radiation treatment for cancer lesions on his face. He'll have 20 treatments over a months time.
Bob Vaughn introduced our speaker, Jeff Weiman from Angels Foster Family Network. He is the Executive Director of this organization that places children in Foster Homes to give them a stable environment while awaiting adoption. They deal with children 5 years and younger as they are the most vulnerable and in need of loving homes. CA has 50,000 children in Foster Care with 3,000 in San Diego. Foster homes can have as many as 6 children maximum per home. As of Jan. 1, 2017, foster care can continue until the age of 21 (previously it has been 18). This age increases the chances of these young adults to pursue higher education and/or find a job and be able to support themselves after leaving foster care.
Vern Cook was selected as Volunteer of the Year for our club. Recognition for Hat's Off to Volunteers will be held at a ceremony on April 22nd at the Rancho Bernardo Performing Arts Center from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Upcoming programs: March 9 - SD Chinese History Museum - Kathleen Dang

President Benita called the meeting to order, reminding us that March is Women's History Month.Frances Blair filled in for Brian and talked about the flag as if she were the flag itself! Very clever. Mike Fuqua gave the inspirational message and Dan Barrios was our greeter.
Some cute letters from our 3rd and 4th grade recipients of our donated books were placed on our tables. Kids are really funny and creative when writing their thank yous!
Last call for anyone wanting to sign up for the March 18th District Training Assembly. Please call Mike Fuqua for details or go to the District Web Site.
The District Conference will be May 20th. Please sign up on line by March 18 to receive a $25 Discount.
Troy Daum announced that he would like more volunteers to be RYLA Facilitators. Scott Robertson has volunteered but we could use a few more. The weekend involves Juniors in high school who our club interviews and then selects 8 students. The Rotary Youth Leadership camp is help at Idylwild Camp, a short bus ride from here. The dates are April 7-9 with a training program on March 18th. Please contact Troy for all the details. It's really a wonderful experience!

Arilla is her sponsor and Cathy Glover will be her Mentor. Congratulations and welcome aboard!Again, Vern Cook and Phil Warner were busy with another worth while cause as they bought lumber, planting soil and seeds to be given to a Del Norte school so they can build garden boxes and grow vegetables for their use or sale. This benefits Austic children and young adults as they are actively involved in the building and care of these gardens.
Karen gave the Family of Rotary Report. Brian Flaherty will be out for about one month as he undergoes radiation treatment for cancer lesions on his face. He'll have 20 treatments over a months time.John O'Neill will be out for about 2 weeks as he recovers from carpel tunnel surgery on his wrist. He'll have difficulty using his walker for the couple of weeks due to a large cast (up to his elbow). We wish you both a speedy recovery. Cards were passed around for everyone to sign.
Rick Bramble stood in for John as Fine Master and did a great job. Mira was our outstanding member with a fine for not one but two calls on her phone during the meeting. I hope a big home purchase was the jist of the call to help pay her fine!

Troy announced he will host a small group of people for the April TGIX. He has invited 6 people (first come, first served) to join him on a sail boat on April 10th. If you are one of the lucky, give him a call and find out the details.

Benitas closing quotes: "If you can help a child, you don't have to spend years repairing an adult."
"Every child deserves a champion - an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be."
Upcoming programs: March 9 - SD Chinese History Museum - Kathleen Dang March 16 - San Diego Airport Authority
