President Mike called the meeting to order promptly at 12:30 p.m. leading us in reciting the Rotary motto. Shirley Napierala followed with the Pledge of Allegiance. Jim Hyldahl's 'inspiration' gave tribute to St. Patrick's Day, celebrating with Irish jokes. Ed Knight, Greeter, made the table rounds, identifying fellow visiting Rotarians and other guests. The Welcome Song presentation was judged officially "mediocre" by Maestro John LoPiccolo, (tongue in cheek) our guest speaker and Music Director of the Poway Symphony.

President Mike thanked the meeting volunteers: Scribe, Sonny Googins, Front Desk, Joel Doss, Jim Reid, Rick Bramble; Set-Up Crew, Paul Donick, Judy Lutticken; Photographer, James Kaspar. Announcements included that Dictionary recipients sent thoughtful thank you letters, one of which announced that 'reading the dictionary is fun," in case you didn't know it, Rotarians. The District Training Assembly will take place March 24 at the Joan Kroc Peace Center at 9:00 a.m. at UCSD. Red Badge Rotarians will get a fee refund. A Food Garden Party was described by two Del Norte student Interact members who are leading the project of packing meals and seeking financial support to underwrite the costs. Foundation Matching gifts were discussed as a fund raising technique.

Susan King presented her last membership requirement, "Who Am I" for her gold badge. This Chicago native knew her husband in high school. Lived in Minnesota and Arizona before California and worked in the Health Care industry, especially in Cardiac rehabilitation. She gave tribute for her early life happiness to wonderful, caring parents. We are fortunate that she and husband David are scheduled to be co-presidents in 2019-2020.

A Foundation Grant was presented to the Boys and Girls Club CEO and Club Director, our Rotarian colleague, Tesha Young. No report from Family of Rotary. Fine Master, John O'Neill, added to club coffers with offerings from generous members. Arilla, our Auctioneer, promoted $30 for a cute succulent cactus arrangement.

John LoPiccolo, Poway's Symphony Orchestra Music Director and Conductor presented a energetic account of the 14 years of the orchestra, the last four of which he has led. His goals include building the audience, building supporters and providing the opportunity of performance for community musicians. He spoke of the community as Poway AND Rancho Bernardo. As an after- note, over 20 of our Rotarians attended and enjoyed the orchestra's performance on Sunday, March 18. Jim Hyldahl likened listening to good music as similar to enjoying wonderful chocolate, and identified the gift book "Book of Chocolate" for John to sign.

Upcoming Programs include: March 22-Camp Wana Kura, "Hope and Happiness for Diabetic Children; March 29, Joy Prouse, Rotarian, "A Call to Action for Rotary Peace Builders."

One of President Mike's quotes: "My diabetes is such a central part of my life..it did teach me discipline... it also taught me about moderation...I've trained myself to be super-vigilant ..because I feel better when I am in control. ~ Justice Sonia Sotomayor
Respectfully,
