Meeting Minutes
July 19, 2018

We met outside today in the BHCC patio.  President Doug brought the meeting to order and led us in reciting the 4 Way Test.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by John Goodrich.  New member Diane Remick inspired us a barrage of quotes from Mohammed Ali, Mahatma Ghandi, Oscar Wilde, Audrey Hepburn, Erma Bombeck, Martin Luther King, Jr., Tom Brokaw, Winston Churchill, Anne Frank and Albert Schweitzer.

Our greeter was Phil Warner and he introduced several guests including Bill Stumbaugh, a distinguished D5340 Rotarian who is now an active Rotarian in Ecuador. Joel Doss did a great job in leading us in singing the welcome song.
Doug thanked our volunteers:  room setup by Sgt. at Arms Jim Reid; check-in by Joel Doss and Maureen Rouleau; photography by James Kaspar; Bill Angus for doing the newsletter and these words by your humble scribe, Dave Brooks.

Doug gave a gold officer badge to Dan Barrios to reflect his position as Foundation Chair.  He also passed out pins with the 2018-19 theme “Be the Inspiration” to all members.  Immediate past president Mike Fuqua told us to bring in light colored blankets and towels next week for the new round of puppies due at Tender Loving Canines.  Doug told us that online registration has been open since June 23rd for the 2019 RI Convention in Hamburg. If you register, please email him the hotel you will be staying in.

Judy Lutticken passed around a sign-up sheet for those interested in a mini-fundraiser called “Lunch & Play with Friends”.

Alex Robertson delivered his “Who Am I” in a fine Scottish brogue, then received his gold badge with his sponsor Don Glover and mentor John Goodrich looking on.

In Family of Rotary news, Jim Hyldahl is recovering well from his surgery. Jim Sommer asked who was interested in going to the Del Mar Race Track; several were.  Finemaster John O’Neill received Happy Bucks from Troy Daum, who got his book published, and Arilla St. Laurent whose son is being inducted in to the Swing Dance Hall of Fame.

New member and Q1 Speaker Chair Pat Chaffee introduced Bob Maddux who spoke to us about a program called a Case for Character, which provides luggage for foster children.
