The meeting was called to order by President Doug Dawson, citing the Rotary pledge and this year’s Rotary goal: “Be the Inspiration”.  Shirley Napierala led the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
 
 
President Doug thanked Gary Saks for putting together the social time slide show loop. John Hawkins provided music for the social time.
 
 
Susan King gave the Inspirational Message, reminding us that people’s words have an affect on other people’s lives.
 
 
Greeter David King introduced one visiting Rotarian, as well as a number of other guests.  Joel Doss joined David leading the Club Welcome Song.
 
President Doug thanked tonight’s volunteers: Joel Doss, Gary Saks and Mira Bozanich who manned the front desk, Jim Reid and Paul Donnick for set up, James Kaspar our photograph, Rz Norris was scribe, and John O’Neill the meeting coordinator.
President Doug said how happy we all are to see Jim Hyldahl at the meeting so soon after his surgery, and congratulated Mira, our International Chair, on Croatia’s victory in World Cup Soccer which put that team in the World Cup finals on Sunday.  He also commented on how spectacular the Junior Golfing competitions, held here in San Diego, were.

President Doug again recognized our Club Board members, who received their new badges last week. New badges were given to Jim Hyldahl (Community Service), Dick Norfolk (Membership Chair), Mira Bozanich (International Chair), Dan Barrios (TRF Foundation), and Don Glover (Club Foundation Chair).
 
 
New Gold Badges were given to Alex and Scott Lawn, following their Who Am I speeches.
 
Alan Turner received his Red Badge tonight.  His sponsor is Jim Hyldahl and his mentor is Gary Saks.
 
Lynn Ross, Charlie Crew, Don Glover and Mike Fuqua were given Service Above Self coins.
 
President Doug, introducing himself in his new role as Club President, gave his own Who Am I talk, citing the important things in his life that have brought him to his present place in Rotary. He also commented on what a great turnout our Club had in Toronto at the International Convention, and thanked all the members who worked so diligently to keep things moving in our group and the group activities.  Don Glover put together a city tour and Ron Hunt put together a tour to Niagara Falls, and a good time was had by all. Gary Saks put together a slide show of the group in these activities. President Doug said 8 people are already signed up for the Convention in Hamburg, Germany, June 1-5, 2019, and encouraged more club members to sign up also.
 
 
Rancho Bernardo Rotary had adopted an International Sister Club: Bhubanesevar Meadows, India. A Certificate was presented in Toronto.
 
In reviewing his impressions of the message of the International President, Barry Rassin, President Doug shared Rassin's goal outlines for this year:

  • Create Structured Mentor Training
  • Help RI Monitoring: Add Birthdate and Classification to “MY Rotary” Profile
 
 
The July 19th meeting will be held OUTSIDE in the Pavilion. BEACH ATTIRE IS SUITABLE. The speaker is Bob Maddux talking about A Kids Foster Care Program.
