Organization and Program descriptions

President Mike called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m. leading us in the Four Way mantra. Don Glover led us in the Pledge noting how inspiring it was to hear a class of Third Grade students recite the Pledge of Allegiance when they were distributing dictionaries to the children. Vern Cook hit the mark with his brief and poignant inspirational message credited to Warren Buffet, "Remember when you sit in the shade that someone else planted the tree."

President Mike made the rounds noting our guests, which was enhanced by Jim Sommer boosting our spirits by encouraging "God Bless America" from "tuneful' Rotarians after we sang our Welcome song.

President Mike acknowledged our volunteers; Scribe Sonny Googins, Front Desk, Shirley Napierala, Joel Doss and John Kasser, Set-Up Crew-Paul Donnick and Judy Lutticken, Photographer, James Kaspar. Birthday Wishes for January belonged exclusively to Past President Benita Page for club members, plus our two guests from Seven Oaks Senior Community, and we all enjoyed the delicious chocolate cake to celebrate. President Mike requested nominees for Hats off to Volunteeers. Doug Dawson described the 60 tree planting event that will involve Rangers, volunteers and RB Rotarians. Dan Barrios presented our distinguished fine-master John O'Neill with his 8k Paul Harris Fellow Award. Congratulations, John. This did not prevent John from finding all kinds of reasons to fill the coffers with fines, starting with an all men's table and Don Glover's cell phone miss-hap. This was followed by celebrations of Happy Bucks: Dan Barrios celebrating 37 years as a Rotarian, Jim Sommer's daughter's ski career accomplishments. We also discovered that our club has 7 Diamond Paul Harris Fellows. ($10,000 contributors).

Sonny Googins introduced Greg Anglea (pronounced Angel), Executive Director of Interfaith Services along with John Kasser presenting a Foundation grant to the organization. Greg described Interfaith as a "Safety Net on a trampoline" as to its growth to stabilize unique individuals lives . His focus to us concentrated on Homelessness. Anecdotes of various successes were amazing. Attention to jobs, housing, food, ending substance abuse and much more has been part of their mission. Interfaith was founded in 1979. Greg returned to Interfaith as Director in May, from other philanthropic career moves. He noted that 90% of people they helped out of homelessness are still in their homes. Greg is an Escondido Noon Rotary member.
