Annual election, a new member, a Paul Harris Fellow, and the City Ballet
This week our normal home, Bernardo Heights Country Club had a conflict in hosting us so we held our meeting at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo. What a beautiful setting all decorated for the holidays! They are a great club and made us feel right at home. As usual, we had a lot going on this week. We held our annual election for officers next year and we are so pleased at the exciting slate of leaders we have chosen for the 2019-20 Rotary Year. They are:
Co-Presidents: David and Susan King
Vice President: Don Glover
Past-President: Doug Dawson
Co-Secretaries: Benita Page and Jeanne Hawkins
Co-Treasurers: Toby Westbrook and Phil Warner
Sergeant-at-Arms: Jim Reid
We had several other items to get done before listening to our wonderful guest speaker. Our Foundation Presented a $1000 grant to Jessica Empeno on behalf of Alzheimer's San Diego. We are proud to support this great organization. Our own Don Glover recieved his 8th Paul Harris Award signifying $8000 donated to The Rotary Foundation, Rotary's great Foundation that is making a difference around the world. We also welcomed a new member, Bob Chambers. Welcoming new members is our favorite thing and Bob will be a great addition. Finally, Susan King gave us an update on our upcoming Holiday Party next week. We have over 70 attendees and will be entertained by the fabulous Madrigal Singers from Rancho Bernardo High School. It will be a real treat. Last but certainly not least our guest speaker, Steven Wistrich, Artistic Director of the City Ballet of San Diego provided us a very interesting presentation on this great ballet company. Steven is a world-class dancer, teacher, and choreographer and his dedication to this ballet company is beyond compare. He and his wife Elizabeth have built this company from the ground up and have put all of their energy into making it as great as it is. Many of our members (including yours truly) didn't know a lot about ballet but came to appreciate this demanding and beautiful art form. All in all a great meeting (as usual)!!
