15 years of Supporting Literacy Education in our Community Schools Continues ...

On Saturday December 10, 2016, 30 members of the Rancho Bernardo Rotary Club labeled 4200 Dictionaries and Thesaurus to be distributed to third and fourth grade students in the Poway Unified School District and Bali. The labels state the Rotary “Four Way Test” which asks: “Of the things we think, say or do: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL, and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”  Then, there is a place for the student to sign the “volumes” as their own. In addition to the labeling, the Rotarians then break up into teams to distribute the Dictionaries and Thesaurus directly to the students in their classrooms, explain the importance of the “volumes” and the significance of the “Four Way Test”. Rancho Bernardo Rotary has been doing the “Dictionary Project” for 15 years (15 x 4000 = 60,000) and plan to continue.

RB Rotarians then distributed dictionaries and thesauri at many PUSD Elementary Schools. Here is our team at Creekside Elementary School.  Pictured with RB Rotarians Bob Vaughn, Ron Hunt and Dick Norfolk is Lisa Charbonneau, a Creekside teacher in one of the classrooms.
